On days you want to party, trust the staff.
You want your night to be fun, to be just right-surrounded by good people, a nice buzz, laughing, connecting and having a good time. You have ingested a therapeutic level of ETOH, and all is well.
Then comes the point where some of us disagree. In an alcohol infused brain, lots more is better. ”Let’s do a shot” happens a lot. Or your friend brings over some Jameson for you to drink after you’ve had wine. In our trained, observant and helpful sober brains, maintaining the therapeutic level is the right path - one tasty beverage every 30 - 40 minutes or so, or careful pacing will keep you happy, and save you from going over the edge.
You know the edge-suddenly your balance is off, people are looking at you wierdly, words don’t come out right. You insist you are fine, fine, and find yourself struggling to control. ”Don’t puke, just don’t puke” is all that’s in your mind. Then, “where’s my keys, where’s my coat, gotta go”. You have forgotten things like your credit card, gone out the door and still have to get home. You wake up feeling all wrong, thinking ”oh, no, I didn’t”. That edge.
We have all been there and don’t like it. Never again, we said, and we meant it. There is too much at risk-what’s that list again? Oh yeah, driving drunk is stupid, being wasted is scary and bad stuff can happen. Getting nailed by the cops is a god-awful horrible experience no one should have. Regrets suck.
Bartenders and servers- everywhere- get to take care of you and it’s lots of fun. Please don’t be angry when we delay serving you, and when we offer (usually for free) a non-alcohol soft drink, juice or coffee. Sometimes we just have to say “I can’t serve you now.” We aren’t being jerks. We are not allowed to over-serve. If you want to be hammered, please do it where you’re safe!
